Web Design Trends for 2018

Design is always changing. That is one of the fun things about being in the web development world. Constantly adapting to the new trends that surface online keeps me on my toes and has me always looking for ways to improve on the projects that I choose to work on. For this blog post, I am choosing three of the designs trends that I have noticed lately and that I think will be very prominent in the upcoming New Year.

To start, we will look at the importance of having a fully mobile responsive design that meets the new AMP(Accelerated Mobile Pages) standards being created by the open source community .According to Statista,

“In 2016, 43.6 percent of all website traffic worldwide was generated through mobile phones, up from 35.1 percent in the previous year.”.

Having a fully responsive website is almost a no brainer these days, yet I still run into plenty of websites (particularly small business websites) that don’t display properly on all devices. This trend of people visiting websites on their mobiles will not be going away any time soon so making sure your site is fully responsive is of upmost importance. This is where applying AMP standards to your page will come in handy. These standards ensure that pages load quickly and display correctly on mobile. In return of following these practices, your web pages will rank higher in search engines and thus attract more people to your website. You can view more about what the AMP standards are all about here.

The second design trend to pay attention to in 2018 is using bold fonts and bright colors. These features coincide with the new and modern web designs that are being created. With people being distracted more than ever these days, you need colors and fonts that will attract the user’s attention. It needs to be eye catching and vibrant anyways people will simply just look over your content and only spend a few seconds on the page. The overall goal is to retain users attention and keep them looking at the content on your page.

The third design trend I want to talk about is having simple but highly functional web page designs. This trend has been becoming increasingly popular over the last year and I believe it will continue to go in this direction. People are getting more imtelligent with how they use the internet and they want web sites and applications to just work as expected. They don’t want to be overwhelmed with features and need things to be intuitive. This is why minimalistic designs that are highly functional are taking over the web design world. Having simple ways to do very powerful things is what the people want!

Thank you for the taking the time to read this article. I will be adding more content soon and look forward to sharing more with you!
